The Importance of being Earnest ….. About Data..

These days there is a wide choice when it comes to software to analyse just what is going on on a business website, and it is getting bigger all the time, despite Google giving their version away free (free?, that is another story)..

But, whatever system you use, there is a problem, in that (a) people don't really know how to work out what the data means and (b) that when they do they don't always do anything about it..

The first part is relatively easy, once you can cut through all the crud to the real data, which is easier with some analytics services than others, you can soon pick out those little gems of knowledge (i.e data that is information that is understood and that can be usefully used) , some people even offer training in this arena…

No, it is taking the time to actually deploy the changes that the knowledge you have gained suggests (or demands depending on the severity of the situation), and that takes time, and time is as we know that one thing that no one seems to have enough of…

So, by all means analyse what is happening on your site (or get someone else to do it for you) but do also remember that you are going to have to be Earnest about making those inevitable changes….
