Home > News & PR > Microsoft and Nokia Team Up Old Rivals Joined Together In Mobile DRM DealNot so long ago, Microsoft and Nokia were big rivals in the mobile software industry. However, this week, Nokia have announced that they intend to use Microsoft’s PlayReady DRM (digital rights management) technology in their S60 software. The S60 software is currently the most used software platform in the cell phone industry. Nokia hopes, that the new DRM technology provided by Microsoft, will help broaden the wireless possibilities that the S60 has already accomplished. When Microsoft’s PlayReady software is added to the S60 handsets, Nokia customers will be able to share protected audio and visual content between other handsets, computer systems and other compatible products. Nokia hopes to have the updated version of the S60 handset ready for marketing sometime in 2008. It has been estimated that the mobile entertainment industry will grow in the next four years to approximately $38 billion, so it is no surprise that Nokia is already working hard to ensure its share of the marketplace.
