Google Moves into The Offline World

Yes Google is now moving into the offline world too. With the introduction of "Google Gears", an open source technology that will allow programmers to build websites that work even when offline. This I suppose is similar to all the idea of "desktop delivery" but with a few more bells and whistles.

The first application to use Google Gears is Google Reader, their RSS feed aggregator, which will allow users to pull in all the info from their subscribed feeds and then browse them offline, with the additionally functionality of adding their "read status" back in to the systemo once they reconnect.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt stated:

"With Google Gears, we're tackling a key limitation of the browser in order to make it a stronger platform for deploying all types of applications and enabling a better user experience in the cloud,"
