Google Enters the SEO Market Place

Google it seems have decided that they should be both the Game Keeper and the "Poacher" at the same time, as they have just entered the SEO market place, albiet via the back door with their purchase of Doubleclick (for a cool $3.1 billion). The SEO angle comes from the fact that DoubleClick own Performics which is an SEO company.

It must be said that both Microsoft and Yahoo have purchased companies like DoubleClick, but these are said to be simply to widen their advertising reach. Whatever, all these moves look at bit dangerous to me and are raising eyebrows in the industry.

Double Standards?

The issue of double standards must also be addressed as Google has hitherto always been a bit suspect of SEO companies issuing such guideance as:-

Now as an SEO company owner I can tell you that it is just not possible to offer such conditions and Google it seems agrees as "their" company Performics does not at the time of writing it seems offer such terms, this being checked out by a USA based SEO company called Medium Blue. If this is true, it does seem that Google apart from wanting to play both sides of the SEM fence, also are prepared to have double standards.

I do hope for the industries sake, that Google and any other Search Engine company divests itself of all SEO and SEM interests, or at least installs such "Chinese Walls" as to make "conversation" between the two entities impossible and even a sackable offence.
