WSI conference hears Online Marketing to Soar

Online advertising is expected to more than double in the UK by 2011, the industry then being worth more than £4.45 billion, the attendees at the WSI Midlands conference was told.

The research done suggests that online marketing will rise by almost 23 per cent in 2008, and continue to show double digit growth every year for the next three years as firms continue to cash in on the e-commerce boom.

The conference of more than 200 "internet experts" met at the Birmingham's Macdonald Burlington Hotel to discuss the future of online commerce in the UK.

The Excellence and Innovation convention was run by WSI, a provider of internet solutions to small and medium sized enterprises.

According to the WSI specialists present, online advertising spend in the UK will surpass £3 billion this year alone as a generation of e-shoppers, combined with surfing pensioners (so called "silver surfers") and the explosion of the social networks are providing Search Engine Marketers with an increasingly receptive audience.
