Yahoo Offers 5 Tips to Increase Convesions

Michael Mattis of Yahoo has posted a blog about how to go about improving your landing pages and improve your conversion rates. There were some good tips which have been condensed below in the hope that you may find something of interest that you can apply to your landing pages.

Top Tip No.1 – Consistent Language.

Where ever possible use the same keywords and terminology that you use in your ads on your landing pages. Even a subtle change in wording can result in a click away from your site. If the user sees a repeat of the text that originally made them click onto your advert it gives them the reassurance that they have indeed come to the right place.

Top Tip No.2 – Trust.

It is essential to make your customer feel secure on your site. With so much media hype recently concerning internet fraud, the slightest doubt will send your customer running for the hills. Make sure that you do all that you can to reassure your customer that your site is protected. Use third party security providers and make sure that their presence can easily be seen on your website by using their badges and icons in prominent places.
If possible, also offer your customers the chance to pay for their purchase by cheque or over the phone. This will ensure that you do not loose your customer at the critical checkout stage because they are uneasy about typing in their card details and personal details.

Top Tip No.3 – Offer tips.

Offer your customers suggestions, and tips on how to get the best out of their purchase. List all of the possible benefits and give demonstrations and clear instructions for use. You could also suggest alternative uses (if there are any) and also other products that sell that would compliment it. Beware though not to try and push your other products on to your customer. They may become overwhelmed and navigate away. It’s fine to try and cross sell, but be subtle and use a link to another page.

Top Tip No.4 – Keep the focus.

There is a current trend for all things ‘Bling’ and many websites seem to be all singing and all dancing. Sometimes it can be a bit too overdone and may put your potential customer off. Whilst it is proven that images, videos and audio are all useful aids to have on your website, make sure that any that you use are clear, informative and above all simple.

Top Tip No.5 – Interactivity.

Keep your customer engaged and entertained whilst on your website. Why not give them something to do like a short quiz to determine which product would best suit their needs. Video testimonials are also a good sales aid and still give the customer the choice on what they want to view.
